The infamous S

I was reminded again today of something that drives me absolutely nuts; the infamous S. This is when the name of a restaurant is spoken incorrectly as a result of adding an 's' at the end. Here are two examples that quickly come to mind.

Notice, the name on these signs is not "Rumbi's" or "Sizzler's". The names of these establishments are not like Wendy's, McDonald's, or Chili's. Whenever I hear somebody about to say the name of a restaurant that doesn't have an 's' on the end, I prepare myself for the 's' insertion and cringe when I hear it. So, if you're doing this, stop! That's my rant for the day.

Mug Shots

I'm sitting here watching the news with Jenny and they just showed a bunch of mug shots for some criminals. It got me thinking. Every time you see a mug shot, the person is either drunk, recently drunk, or scowling. Just once I want to see a guy (or gal) flashing a sober and happy smile. Also, I want that dude's shirt.

Dog days of summer

Do you remember when you were a kid how summer vacation seemed to go so long that by the end your days were spent being bored? I haven't had any classes during summer semester and I have to say that this break needs to be longer. At the same time though, the heat is killing me. It has gotten to the point that in the afternoon at work, I find myself finding reasons to go into our server room where the a/c is set to a slick 62 degrees. That's Fahrenheit folks. I get in my car and it doesn't matter how much the a/c is blasting, I'm still sweating. Rush hour traffic and hot weather are definitely not on my "favorites" list. On the other hand, I went golfing this last weekend in 80 degree weather, sweat my brains out, and didn't mind it too much. I also got super fried.

I borrowed this book from my father-in-law a few months ago and have slowly made my way about a third of the way through it. When you're studying American history in school, there are those figures that you always hear a lot about. John Adams is seldom one of them. I can definitely say that he is one of the most underrated figures of the revolution and he was one of the most respected men of his day.

Garbage truck

Do you ever hear the garbage truck come by your house at 6:06 in the morning? I used to hate it when he would come down our side of the street and then go up the other side of the street a few minutes later. For some reason though, now I look forward to it. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's some sort of comfort to know that even though I feel like I have to get up early in the morning, there is somebody right outside that has to get up even earlier.

Been listening to a lot of this lately. It has a great mix of upbeat, soft, and fast aggressive stuff. Nate, you know what I'm talking about.

Back again, and things that must go.

It looks like this blog was only "mostly dead." (name the movie) This is where I will post short blurbs about my random thoughts. The family blog is where you can find real info on what we're doing. So, just a few things that must go.

1. People at your job that aren't your boss, but think they are because you're the new guy.

2. People who didn't plan ahead and then think that their problem should be your problem.

3. People that run into you because they're walking in a different direction than they're looking.
