Bragging rights...

Well, I'm here taking a break at work, and I just checked my wife's blog. Apparently she has made another post to try and one-up me. Well, it's not gonna happen! I don't know how many of you know, but Jenny got me a small fridge for Christmas that I can put in my cube at work. On Saturday we went and moved it in. So, all day today I have been enjoying ice cold water and I just finished a nice, cold orange. Men, these are the sorts of things that can happen to you when you stand out in the cold at 4 in the morning for some weird machine that supposedly makes craft-making easier. Work has been really slow the last few weeks. The only people that are here are those that have only been here a few years. It's going to be strange when everybody comes back and we actually have real work that needs to be done. Well, I hope everybody has a great New Year's!

Hangin' out with the grandpas

This last week Jenny and I had the opportunity to spend some time with my Grandpa Fuhriman and her Grandpa Flint. Last Sunday Jenny, myself, Chris, Nat, and my mom all drove up to Providence (near Logan) to see my mom's dad, Grandpa Jake. It was a great visit. Grandpa sat and told Jenny and I all about how he and my late Grandma met, were married, and how they have passed on their legacy to their children. Right after my grandma died, my grandpa bought a new train set and set it up in his basement. So, picture this (I've posted a picture to help you), you've got a 92 year old man who looks like he's a kid again when he gets down on his knees and starts playing with his new train set. It was a great time.

Then, on Wednesday night, Jenny and I were able to take her dad and grandpa to see the Jazz take on the Mavs. I was pretty skeptical about their chances going in, but they pulled it off. It was Grandpa Flint's first time at a Jazz game, so I guess it's a good thing that they won. Grandpa Flint is a big Jazz fan and he watches all of their games from home on tv. When we found out that we had four tickets to the game, we thought maybe we should take him. When I called to tell him what time we would pick him up, he told me that he had never been to a game before. It was a great opportunity to watch a good game and enjoy each other's company.

To quote Frank Costanza; you want it, you got it!

I've been sick the last few weeks so I haven't felt up to updating the ol' blog. I'm still not feeling well, but I'm better than I was. As I'm typing this, I'm watching an episode of The Office. I love watching this show, but it is also very strange for me. The reason is the fact that every time I see Michael, it reminds me of my old boss at KeyBank. Basically they are the type of people who think that they're the coolest boss and vastly more intelligent than everyone else. This results in them being the lamest boss and you are frequently reminded of their stupidity. The best part is that they are completely oblivious to the fact that everyone sees right through them. The similarities are freaky.

Have you ever been to a day-after-Thanksgiving sale? Well, Jenny and her sister had this plan to go to Robert's Crafts the morning after Thanksgiving to buy something called a Cricut. Well, Jenny got really sick right before Thanksgiving. I decided to take one for the team (team meaning wife). So, at 4 am I was standing outside of Robert's Crafts in Clinton, waiting to buy a Cricut. Not only that, but I was first in line. You know what they say; go big or go home. Well, I'm going to end this post now because the power keeps flickering. I apologize for the completely unorganized thoughts. Cut me some slack, man, I'm sick.

Sold out by a brother-in-law...

Well, if you didn't know, I've been tagged by my bro-in-law Michael. So, I'm here to write seven things about myself. Some of them you might already know, but I'm going to try desperately to make this somewhat interesting. So here goes.

1) I'm a total nerd. I love studying the details of a ton of different subjects. I have to constantly remind myself that nobody really cares about the economic reasons against outsourcing, why we don't really need to worry all that much about China stealing jobs, or why we shouldn't have so many different programs that people think are so important. I have to remind myself that I'm one of the only dorks I know who thinks that economics is ridiculously interesting. Another subject I love studying is history and art history. I like to study cars. I'm not skilled at fixing them or anything like that, but I like studying what makes them go faster, how to make them corner better, brake better, etc. This interest has moved me into a new interest in model building.

2) I love traveling, but I like staying home. I'm the type of person that enjoys going on trips to various places, but when I'm not traveling, I like to stay at home and hang out. I've traveled to 8 different countries, and I've been to a few of them more than once. I've had great experiences like reflecting on life during a sunny afternoon on the Grand Canal in Venice. Or, there's the time when I rode my bike (faster than traffic) down a mountain, during a rainstorm, in some of the steepest mountains of Taiwan.

3) I enjoy theater. Starting when I was in 8th grade, I had the opportunity to perform in theater every year until I graduated. I was on the Davis High team that won State in theater in 2001 when I was a senior. When I watch movies, I like to analyze the theatrical elements and what the director might be trying to express that is not explicitly stated. I always like an opportunity to go to see theater, whether professional or amateur.

4) Although my time spent in this realm has diminished, I still love to ski. There's nothing quite like floating through powder, destroying your knees and killing your thighs through some moguls, or feeling that burn on your face as you carve down a steep groomer. I love going skiing with friends and covering them in a cloud of snow as you skid to a stop right in front of them (occasionally sliding out and knocking them and you down a hill). I enjoy swishing through trees so thick that you can barely see the sun and then breaking out into a sunny clearing where the snow glistens like small diamonds.

5) Every day I have the opportunity to put fear into the hearts of men and women all over Utah. I'm an internal auditor for the Utah Department of Human Services. It's amazing how worried people become when you e-mail them and the only question you ask is "What is the name of your current supervisor?" They freak out! I guess they think that I'm going to call their supervisor and recommend a termination, but really I just need it so that I can put it on a spreadsheet.

6) I have a secret ambition. I've always, and still, want to learn to play bass guitar. I don't know if I ever will because I just don't seem to have enough time. Maybe I'll pick it up when I'm retired and all the kids have moved out. Then all my grandkids will be able to tell their friends that they've got a rockin' gramps.

7) I like to make stupid movies with my video camera and iMac. Right now Jenny and I are working on a four-part series titled "Tour the Nielsens cars." So far we have "The Vibe" (our former rental car), "Mag" (Jenny's old Civic), "Nygel" (our Pathfinder), and we still have to film "Suby" for our Subaru. These feature films include music and narration which showcases the features and feelings associated with our cars. Hopefully you'll be seeing this series soon...

I now tag Jenny and Nate.

Another Friday at work

Well, this is a picture of what I was doing at work on Friday morning, sort of. Some of the events for the Dew tour are right across the street from where I work, so me and my buddy Gary went and watched for a little bit while we were on our daily walk. The only camera that I had was the one on my phone, but I think it turned out alright considering my situation. So, it was pretty cool. We were just standing on the grass outside of the fence and we could see just about everything we wanted to see. On another note, I resumed work on my model Porsche last night. I spray painted the outer frame and got a lot of work done on painting and gluing the engine block and suspension. I'm pretty happy with my progress. I'll have to post some pictures along the way. I'm pretty bummed about this upcoming week. Jenny is going out of town for work for the entire week. Then, on Wednesday I have to leave for Richfield. It was pretty rough when I had to be gone for one night. I didn't sleep at all that night and I was completely drained the next day. I think next week will see me running completely off of caffeine, because I don't think I'm going to sleep at all. So, hopefully I survive!

Trippin' on business

Well, not much has been going on lately. On Monday I have to go on an overnighter in Cedar City. We're going to audit two region offices down there. It's my first overnight trip for work, so I'm a bit curious about how it's going to go. I'm going with a guy from work who's going to kind of show me the ropes about these audits. We're taking a state car, but at least we get our own hotel rooms. At the end of the month I have to go to Richfield for two nights for a conference. (這些地方在Utah的南部) I am definitely not excited about that one, especially because I'm going to miss the season premier of The Office for some stupid social activity. You might be asking "But Cam, why don't you just ditch the social activity? You've never been shy about ditching those types of things before?!" Well, I'm on the planning committee for this "wonderful" event, so I have to go. Well, Jenny is in the other room right now reading the third book in the "Twilight" series. Have you heard of these? Seriously, once those books get cracked, you can pretty much say goodbye to your significant other for a few hours. Well, I got hit by the dork bug the other day. I watched Apple's presentation on the new iPod touch. I was impressed, except for the crappy memory. Hopefully by the time I've saved enough money (which will be a while) they'll have a newer version with more memory. In other news, we paid off our Pathfinder yesterday. Last weekend we were at Bear Lake when the huge storm system rolled through. The above picture is our view right after we were blinded by the downpour. Props to my wife for the sweet pic. (Props是做的很好的意思)

theliquidcam goes international...

Well, I was thinking the other day about this whole blog thing. I'd heard of blogs, but had never really thought of getting one myself until one day I got an e-mail from Nate-dogg telling me that he had one. So, I ventured into the blogging arena with the intent of keeping my peeps up to date on what's going on around here. It's worked out pretty well, but then I was thinking about all of my friends in Taiwan that I don't keep in touch with as much as I used to. So, I sent an e-mail to a bunch of the folks on the small island of Formosa and informed them. So, hopefully we'll be getting some international traffic through this little corner of the web. In other news, Jenny and I are no longer the co-chairs of the activities committee. We're now nursery workers. Last week was our first week and this is basically how it went on my end: "Please stop crying. Do you want a toy to play with? Oh, please stop crying! Hey! Don't hit, that's not nice! No! Don't hit back! Oh man, what is that smell?!" Jenny had a great time, and I was completely exhausted. It's sad when I've come to the point where I feel like this is better than the activities committee. Other than that, things are pretty relaxed around these parts. September this year will not only bring cooler temperatures to us, but it will also bring us a car title. I'm stoked to have the Pathfinder payed off and I feel really good about how quickly we've payed it off. So, with that out of the way, I guess it's all about saving money for that next big purchase... On another note, at the beginning of this school year, I've posted a picture for all of you returnees...

...and just like that, summer is almost gone

Wow, it seems like summer just started, and now it's almost gone. Jenny and I have done a lot this summer; camping, swimming, boating, 4-wheeling...the list just goes on. The end of this summer is going to be a new experience for Jenny and I because Jenny is pregnant! Ha, got ya. Not really. What I mean by new experience is this will be the first time when the end of summer won't mean that we're going back to school. We're probably going to have a little celebration on the first day of school. Sorry to those of you who DO have to go back to school. Just remember: it's all worth it, there's a big payoff at the end, yada yada yada. Here are some pictures from our summer. More to come...

Madness at Kimball Mill

Wow, what a day. We had the big 4th of July breakfast this morning for our ward and our neighboring ward. There was supposed to be a speaker at 7, and at 8 (or so we were told) the speaker was supposed to finish and then we would have a breakfast. Well, I was out setting up a few last tables when I see a steady line of people coming to get breakfast. Oh yeah, it was only 7:25. So, for the next 2 1/2 hours we tried frantically to keep up with the food demand. I'm glad that we'll probably never have to do this again. Well, then I drove Jenny up to Bear Lake. I have to stay home for work. We made the drive from B-town to Bear Lake in just under 2 hours. Our average is 2.5. I'm not really thrilled about the prospect of going back to work after a day like today, but what can you do? I'll be heading up to Bear Lake on Friday night. So, I'm going to be home alone for the next few days. This is the first time that Jenny and I have been apart like this since we've been married. I hope I can sleep at night. Updates on that later...

Busy times

Well hello there again. I'm home sick from work, which stinks, so I thought I'd update all y'all on what's been going on. I'm typing this post on my new iMac. I don't think I'll ever buy a pc again (Nate, you know). Rand, everything will be easier when you come over to the light side. My sister Nat is getting married on Friday. She went to the temple last Friday and it was cool to have the whole fam there. Out of the guys she's dated, there aren't many that I'd want for bro-in-laws, but I think Chris is great. I'm really glad they're getting married. So, we've had that going on. Jenny and I are really busy with our church callings as well. About a month and a half ago, we got called in for an interview with the bishop. We have been on the activities committee for about 2 years, twice the average. So, we were thinking that he was probably going to release and give us a new calling. Jenny was thinking it would probably be primary, and she was really excited about it. Don't ask for my feelings on the subject. Well, he didn't release us. Instead, we were called to be the new activities committee co-chairs. So, we're in the middle of planning a 4th of July breakfast for two wards. I think somebody clued the bishop into the fact that we just graduated. So, that's what's goin' on. We're trying to think of where we want to go on a trip this summer, but we haven't decided on anything yet. Any ideas?

Another example of why we need another highway...

How long does it take to drive from Kaysville to Bountiful? 15 minutes, 20? Well, last night it took us an hour and 20. I love UDOT. So, here are some pics of our wonderful adventure. We were in the Subaru. Needless to say, I couldn't really feel my left foot after working the clutch so long. Also, I would've gotten out of his blindspot, but I had nowhere to go.

Swampy sand

Here's a picture for you. I've been informed that I need to post more, so here's quick one. Jenny and I were at Bear Lake over Conference weekend and we decided to take the Pathfinder for a drive down to the beach. Well, if you look closely you can seek where our wheels sunk in. We were stuck up to the running boards. Yes, we were in 4-low, but it didn't help. Apparently I need to work on my mud/wet sand driving skills. Some dude in a Dodge diesel pulled us out. Good times.

Update

I haven't posted for a long time. I've been wanting to post some pictures, but I've had to accept the fact that it's probably not going to happen anytime soon. Things are going well. I'm enjoying my new job. I'm the youngest person in my department by a good ten years. I'm learning a lot all the time. It's strange to work all day and then go home and not have anything to do. I like it though. I'm excited for this summer. Jenny and I are planning on going camping some and we might make another trip to Jackson Hole. Well, that's about it for now. Late.

8-5

I've been at my new job almost 2 weeks now. I'm liking it a lot so far. I'd tell you about what I've been doing, but it just so happens that the details of what I've been doing are privileged info. So, maybe someday you'll see me on the news...but probably not. I will say that I can't believe how relaxed my work environment is. Also, I'm the youngest guy in my department by at least 10 years. I really like working downtown. I can get to work in under 20 minutes, and I can get home in under 30 (that's during rush hour). So, I've been spending my time playing playstation, working on my model, reading The Economist, and next week I'll probably be putting a short ram air intake on my Subaru. Yep, It's going to be my first time doing any modifications to my car. We'll see how it goes!

New job

Well, I put in my two weeks today at the bank. I'm going to work for the State as an internal auditor. It's a good starting point and I'll get good training for the future. So, I guess it's the 9 to 5 life for me. Jenny and I are really excited and we really feel that we are being blessed. It's nice also because I'll be working in downtown SLC, so we don't have to move or do anything crazy like that. I start March 5th. Sweet!

In order to calm the rioting public...

I haven't posted for a long time because I was waiting until I could get some pictures of Taiwan posted. As you can see, I still haven't done it, but I decided I would write a post anyway. Things are going well. I'm still in the job hunt, and I'm hoping to get an internal auditing job with the state. I should find out about it within a week. I'm getting really bored at the bank. Jenny got promoted at Barnes, so if you're a regular there, you won't see her on the teller line anymore. Lately I've been spending my free time working on my model, playing Playstation, and helping out around the house. I don't miss school at all. I've realized that this is going to be a busy summer. Heather is having a boy in a few months; Brandon and Natalie are having a girl in a few months; Natalie and Chris are getting married in June; and Jenny graduates in May. I got a call from Jake a few weeks ago telling me that he's getting married over spring break. I've taken up model cars to kill time while Jenny does her homework. I've already built a blue WRX, and now I'm working on a black Porsche. The Porsche is going to take a ton of time because none of the parts are pre-painted. It's coming along nicely. During this past few months of not going to school I've started to see my "adult" life unfold in front of me. It's interesting because the bank has suddenly become very dull. I think it's because I realize now that I can do so much more. Well, I'll try and keep you updated on the job hunt, and hopefully Taiwan pictures will be here soon.
